Whimsical Château Barthélemy Wedding near Paris – Emotional & Unique

Château Barthélemy Wedding, France

Esther and Célia

The Atmosphere
Some weddings are beautiful. Others are emotional. But this Château Barthélemy wedding outside Paris was both – and so much more. Esther and Célia created a celebration that was heartfelt, genuine, and infused with tradition, while keeping everything relaxed and true to who they are.

The Ceremony in the Clairière
The celebration began in the late afternoon, as guests gathered under the trees in the Clairière for the ceremony. Both brides walked down the aisle with their parents in two deeply moving entrances. Esther’s brother guided the unofficial Jewish ceremony, weaving together blessings, speeches, and vows.

One of the most unforgettable moments came when their ring bearer – a barn owl – flew in carrying the rings, a surprise that left guests in awe. After vows, rings, and the breaking of the glass, the newlyweds led everyone to the Pelouse Sud for cocktails and laughter.

The Celebration
During the cocktail hour, family photos were kept relaxed and minimal – staying true to the couple’s wish for authentic, unposed memories. Guests were even able to interact with the owls, a detail that perfectly echoed the whimsical forest theme of the wedding.

Dinner followed in the Verrière, with speeches from parents and emotional moments that had everyone in tears. After the sunset, the brides cut their cake, shared a small waltz, and were lifted on chairs in the traditional hora dance – an unforgettable highlight of the night. Fireworks and dancing carried the celebration into the early hours, marking a magical close to an extraordinary day.

The Morning After – Brunch at Château Barthélemy
The celebration didn’t end with the wedding night. The next morning, family and friends gathered once more for a relaxed brunch at Château Barthélemy. It was the perfect way to wind down after an unforgettable evening of dancing, fireworks, and heartfelt moments.

Guests shared stories from the night before, laughed over memories already forming, and enjoyed the château’s serene surroundings. For me as a photographer, brunches like this are a gift – they offer space for candid, unposed moments: hugs, smiles, and quiet conversations that show the real closeness of a couple’s community.

Brunch is often overlooked, but it completes the wedding story. It reflects what destination weddings are all about: slowing down, savoring time together, and creating memories that go beyond just one day.

Why This Wedding Stood Out
As a wedding photographer, this was my first same-sex wedding and also my second time at Château Barthélemy. The combination of authenticity, emotion, and unique traditions made this one of the most genuine celebrations I’ve ever documented. It reminded me why I love destination weddings: every story is different, every couple has their own way of celebrating love, and every wedding becomes unforgettable in its own way.
