Before their wedding day in Ribeira Grande, Diogo and Beatriz met me for a pre-wedding session to break the ice and soak in the beauty of São Miguel. We started at the iconic Santa Bárbara Beach, where the dramatic coastline met soft golden light; a perfect warm-up for the camera. From there, we made our way to Miradouro de Santa Iria, a viewpoint that turned out to be quite meaningful to them.

It wasn’t just a beautiful location – it was a part of their story. Years ago, during the early days of their relationship, they used to hang out there with their friends. Now, standing in the same place as an engaged couple, they captured a full-circle moment before stepping into their wedding day.

As a photographer, I love when locations carry history and emotion. It makes the images feel alive. And we were lucky – the Azores gave us perfect weather, which isn’t always guaranteed on the island.

Diogo and Beatriz’s wedding took place on a sunlit day in June; a small miracle, considering the rainy days that came before. Hosted at the charming Quinta de Santa Rosa in Ribeira Grande, the celebration was filled with warmth, connection, and personal meaning.

Their story began as teenagers growing up in São Miguel, and after years of long-distance love between Lisbon and beyond, they gathered with friends and family from across Europe to mark this new chapter. The ceremony unfolded outdoors, surrounded by nature and ocean air, with an energy that was equal parts heartfelt and celebratory.

The groom’s side arrived in a decorated car parade, adding festive flair before the emotional ceremony. The evening continued under a grand tent; from cocktails to dancing, speeches to cake-cutting, everything felt personal and joyful. You could feel how close their community is, and how deeply they’re rooted to this island, even after years abroad.

As a destination wedding photographer, this day reminded me why I love what I do: real connections, meaningful places, and stories that deserve to be told beautifully.
